Happy leap day! I hope everyone is having a celebration or something, cause this day only happens every four years. I'm celebrating by wearing a green tie... Except that has nothing to do with the day. I've been wearing every green tie I own since Friday when I got that package from you. That was honestly the best part of the week, because most of this week we've been sick. On Tuesday this guy in one of the English wards invited us and the English elders over for lunch. I don't know what was in the stew, but it gave me and Elder Valladares such bad food poisoning that we were sick for the next three or four days. Friday was the first day we managed to get out and do something productive, so of course we went to temple square with Julio and Keyshla! It was super awesome. We went and saw the video "God's Plan for Families," and Keyshla was crying at the last part (the part where I always tear up too, but for different reasons I think). Then we showed them the temple model so they could see the baptismal font, and the rooms where sealings take place. They are so amazing I still can't believe just two months ago we were about to drop them. The change happened the first time they came to church. This is why it's so important to go to church and partake in the Sacrament! The Spirit there, however used to it we may be, changes people. It changed Julio so drastically in just a month or so that he noticed it and wants more. And it changed Keyshla in a similar way, so she is now active and becoming a regular part of the branch. They are really the driving force behind Julio's progression toward baptism, whereas before we were the ones trying to push him along. The difference is so stark it amazes me every time we go teach them. Marlon and Eddy, our other progressing investigators, also made progress this week. They're on date again! I think I reported this in my delayed "Tuesday Morning" email. They also came to church this week even though we weren't able to make it to Mount Ensign due to a stake conference. Thankfully, our new WML in that ward is highly involved, so he took care of everything we would normally do in church. Saturday was quite a blast. In the morning there was a big service activity at the U, where they got a bunch of dentists and dentistry students to provide kids from the community that probably don't get regular dental care with cleanings, fillings, and even some more advanced stuff. I went with Elder Berrios, one of our zone leaders, to help translate for anyone who didn't speak English. I enjoyed learning a few new words and getting to chat with the little kids to make them more comfortable, and Elder Berrios just looked like a kid in a candy store for the entire three hours. He was a full-fledged dentist back in Honduras and actually paid for his mission that way. So he was over the moon to see all the tools and x-rays and things that he used to use. Every once in a while he'd point to an x-Ray and say, "So, that kid is 6 because..." It was pretty cool to see. Then that evening we had the adult session of stake conference with the Arbor branch. Elder Becerra of the 70 ran the meeting, and he focused on making the Sabbath more holy. His teaching style was more like a zone conference than a stake conference, getting the congregation involved and calling people up randomly to bear their testimonies. I enjoyed it a lot, and came up with a few ways I could make Sunday better. I realized that I have gotten into a habit of treating Sunday like every other day, and making Monday my day of rest. After all, it is the only day we have that's different from the week and it's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking Sunday is "everyone else's sabbath" even though that's not true. I decided to make Sunday different somehow, but I'm not sure how yet. If you have any ideas, send them to me! Yesterday was stake conference again, and a Spanish devotional with the mission. I was supposed to translate the devotional to English for President, but neither he nor the translation equipment showed up, so I didn't end up doing it. Thank you so much for the shirt and the emails, that really made my week. Next day to count down to is PI DAY!!! I'm just as excited as an of you are for that. Have an awesome week! Please reply to this email to help me make sure you got it. Love, Spencer I asked my companion, "Can I wear this to stake conference?"
Life is never boring with 8 children, two parents, a dog, a cat and bunnies. With the oldest child now graduated from high school, and the youngest still potty-training, we feel we have picked up some insight on this noble profession we call parenting. We welcome you to pull up a seat and join our Table for Ten.
