It's the most important Monday of the
transfer: when they tell us what's happening with transfers! This time
the news isn't super exciting, because we're both staying here. But
that's exactly what I wanted, so I'm happy. And today starts the longest
transfer of my mission, literally. This one will be seven weeks long,
due to the change in MTC stay times of missionaries serving in their
native language.
The
most awesome thing that happened this week was a lesson we had with
Cristina, a new investigator we picked up two weeks ago. We had been out
of touch because she went into the hospital to have her baby, but we
finally had a lesson on Wednesday. What's better, her husband was there.
And he's amazing to teach! This guy grew up Catholic, but he said (in
different words) that he doesn't want to blindly follow the "traditions
of his fathers" so he ended up in the Evangelical church. But now he
feels like all they do is sit around and act as a social group, not a
church. So he's really interested in what we have to say. But he doesn't
just agree with everything we say the way some golden investigators do.
Instead, he challenges us to support our statements with scripture or
sound reasoning. It's, I dunno, refreshing in a way. 99% of the people
we teach are either taking our word for it all the time, or challenging
everything we say simply because we said it. Michael is one of the first
people I've taught who is clearly considering our message without bias.
And of course, he'll come to the right conclusion because this stuff is
true, and an unbiased analysis will always show that. I'm sure that the
both of them and their son will be baptized and stay active in the
church, because when they finally make that choice it will be forever.
They didn't make it to church but we have a lesson with them tonight.
And seven more weeks to work with them! I'm excited, really excited.
I
guess this week wasn't all that great besides that. I guess as I get
more and more experienced in missionary work, things seem more and more
routine and not worth writing about. Hopefully you don't mind because
you already have an idea of what my daily life is like. Most of the time
I only report the exceptional days and lessons. And I'm getting worse
and worse at taking pictures, too! I didn't take any this week. Sorry
this is such a lame email.
Love,
Spencer
