Happy birthday D! I can't believe my little deacon is already a
teacher. Time really does fly, doesn't it? And so did this week. We've
been working hard to increase the amount of work in this area by
finding more investigators, and results are just starting to show. I
also noticed a couple of little miracles that I'm sure are a response
to our hard work. We also had a lot of meetings to go to. Tuesday
morning was a correlation with our stake MLS missionaries (senior
missionaries), which they were nice enough to turn into breakfast. I
can't say no to free cinnamon rolls! Then I had to meet with the other
two DL's in the zone to plan a training for zone conference. We were
assigned to train on "Find when you teach and teach when you find," so
we decided to focus mostly on the second half of that, which is the
half that missionaries in our mission do less well at. We put together
a nice little presentation about how to build upward from what most
people already know, creating a connection from that to the Book of
Mormon and the Restoration. I also had to practice piano since I
somehow got roped into doing a musical number. I worked out a nice
little medley of four hymns, which I think I emailed about last week.
Tuesday night I did my first ever baptism interview. That's a
seriously nerve-wracking responsibility! But it went all right, and
the Peruvian guy was clearly ready.
Wednesday was zone conference! My training went super well, and we
learned a lot about finding people to teach. The whole zone conference
was about that, which was perfect because that's what we need most in
this area. That took up most of our day, especially since all the
leaders had to stay afterward for an hour long meeting with President.
That was a weird meeting, too. It basically consisted of us throwing
around ideas to get the missionaries more excited and energetic.
We had a super cool experience with revelation on Thursday night. We
had decided to visit a member family who just sent their daughter to
the MTC, since we know from experience that families with missionaries
out are usually the ones who are most excited to share the gospel. We
figured they might have a few referrals for us. On the way there, we
passed by the apartment complex where the T. family (investigators
the old elders left us but we hadn't met them yet) lives. Elder Dixon
stopped and said, "Hey, why don't we visit the T.?" I felt good
about that idea too, so we headed there instead. And lo and behold,
they were just getting home! They invited us inside and we got to sit
and talk for a good 45 minutes. By this time it was almost 9, so we
didn't have time to teach a proper lesson, but we got to know them and
they promised to call us when they have one of their irregular days
off from work. It was a nice little miracle.
We did manage to visit that family with a missionary, but not until
Saturday night. They welcomed us in, gave us food, and asked if we
could teach her brother's girlfriend when she gets here from Puerto
Rico at the beginning of next transfer. So we actually got a referral
from that visit, but a delayed one! I've never had that happen before.
On Sunday we had a nice lesson with Brandon, a 10 year old kid
whose dad is less active and whose mom is also investigating. He's
really shy, so the lesson didn't go as well as we hoped, but next time
hopefully he'll open up more. And on the way home, we stopped by Juan
T. and found him at home! He's still as funny as ever, and he
remembered me instantly. Unfortunately, his son is back in Mexico
waiting on his papers. Hopefully I'll be around when he gets back.
I just got a few emails and it looks like you had a fun week! Lots of
stuff about the bunnies, AP testing, and a camp out. Good luck on
those tests, Mariah and Payson! I love you all!
Spencer
I got a special cookie at zone conference because my birthday is
before the next one. It's shaped like Utah! I thought it was super
cute.
